Hanging out in search of treasures: STONE CROANA

Wednesday, 05/06/2009 Departure 14.11 '17.05 Arrival' Km.5, 9 of 373 m. to 693 m. Quazza-Cima STONE CROANA

Take your time, invite the Eagles vintage. The route today, it should have been the intention, instead turns out to be quite challenging in places. Abiamo finally decided to go to find the hidden treasure at the top of Stone Croana, which tickled us for some. With us today is John aggregate, a friend and companion Arnaldo countless hikes. E 'to him to explain how, following the directions on the GPS, get the exact place where the Geocache is placed, a sort of treasure hunt for lovers and users of satellite. We move to car to Quazzo, Piane Sesia village in the town of Serravalle Sesia. Parked near a bench at the very beginning of the road called the Path of Brenta, starting immediately with the beautiful slopes, there is rising rapidly in altitude.

As we continue to rise, struggling at times as the gravel road surface makes us slip in the most harsh, savoring the scent of green is spreading more and admire the colors of the flowering plants.

reached an altitude from which you can already see some views to the east bank of the Sesia and its heights well know (among which we can distinguish the motto of the kids), the road becomes smoother and more gentle slopes.

In north-east you can see Mount Fenera with its steep west wall, dotted with caves, Ara and stretching down to the left bank of the Sesia. Progresses, more to the west, until you reach the stairs leading to the path that goes to the hut at the base of the rock wall, climbing the CAI of Novara. We opt for the easy way and simple: to continue the path 704 which goes almost flat and then head south to meet the path is 700, said "Among Dolcino.
study map that illustrates the circuit between the hiking trails of the hill communities "Areas of highest quality and Nebiolo Porcino," Sen Col project that deals with the part of territory running from Gattinara and get us to where we came to the north, and including Lozzolo and the Wood House, to the west. The trails are well marked with weather-vane test. Here, too, large map with the red dot to indicate the point where we are.

From there, abandoned the province of Vercelli, Biella and you enter the path is now marked by the palette, these beautiful sound, which indicate the paths that are part of the "Grand Crossing Biellese" Arnaldo "sniff" a path between the plants and invites us to follow starting a tough stretch ... We leave the relaxing way and face the steepest part of the day, as seen also in the elevation profile. (We could have avoided if only we had followed the road, then back down as we are to meet again where the road branches off the path to the top of Stone.)

However, passing from this path, we were able to admire the hills that we know well, on the other side of the river Sesia.

Grignasco at the valley, on the right and then the profile of Boca Capretta and the Cross of Teso

Still Grignasco and some peaks of the Park Fenera: Cross of Teso, Mt Lovagone, Mount Calvary, Motto and ditches along the Cerianelli houses perched on the slope leading to the Colma.

And to our left half of today: Top of Stone Croana.

Back to Bocchetto called "Break the dead", a crossroads of ancient paths of communication, other signs are placed with the description of the places we are going through. That of the Workers Mutual Aid Support Act has been ruined by some rude rude. Click another photo you can read a piece of local history that tells of the traditions rooted there and why it is so called here. Here we are at the crossroads of the "Trail Of Dolcino" (the 700) with the "Path of Brenta (the 704).

We take the very steep path that will lead us to the top.

arrive at the smaller peak, we have a panoramic view that allows us to sweep south and see how the rice fields of Vercelli plain are slowly filled with water.

Pass the smaller peak, it bends to the east and the trail becomes almost flat, but has suddenly exposed to the south, there is the end of the rock wall that borders on the move, so you should avoid getting too close to the edge in order to avoid potential slip hazard. We come finally to the summit. The treasure hunt is simple. Thanks to the coordinates displayed on the GPS, we carry over from his hiding place and the finding of the plastic bag that contains the jar with the treasure is a snap. While Eugene documents the discovery took place, Arnaldo opens cache containing a pencil pencils, a shell, a rubber doll and the log sheet on which to affix our signatures and our song commento.Dal you to enter a figure representing Disney Gambadilegno, and We shall close and relocate all where we found him waiting for some other geocachers it exhumed. The beauty of this place of concealment is not the difficulty that occurred to his discovery, but the road we had to travel to get there.

fulfilled our duty as researchers (By the way, since it was made a year ago, the treasure has been visited by two other geocachers, both from Germany), we stop to admire once again the view that offers us this place, even though the weather did not favor us in space towards the horizon due to the haze that shrouds the plain.

's time to go back to that group of houses can be seen below us: Quazzo, where we have the car. On the way back we decided to visit the hut at the base of the rock wall that acts as a gym climbing. At the junction with Trail Of Dolcino, take a left onto the 704 and soon reached the vicinity of the hut and then walk under the wall where "staged" in favor of the photojournalist, is an attempt to climb ...

From notes for instructions for finding the geocache, carry a few lines devoted to this gym
"On the wall are equipped with several climbing routes on porphyry, with difficulty to suit all tastes (from second to seventh grade UIAA, or 5.3 to 5.10 of USA): for those who can climb this may be the most direct way to reach and acceptable the top, allowing for the return walk in the woods. The wall faces south: this, together with the low altitude, you climb up nicely even in winter. "

climbing routes Stone Croana

E back to the car. Satisfaction for a decent walk (but in the days following accuse a lot of fatigue, unfortunately) and the discovery of the treasure.
Take it easy, sing the Eagles. Take it easy ... In fact we have the comfortable grip, we have not the slightest thought to face the wall ....

Istqb Questions For2010

place names, so many stories in one word.!

To continue the work of the previous post http://alsciscion.blogspot.com/2010/09/baraggione-o-baraggioni . html on the search for the origins of the name of Baraggioni, incanalatosi in a series of personal recollections, I propose exchange I had with Gregory E.mail Fornara, sumptuous editor http://www.spillo. es/index2.htm and http://www.varganbas.it/ , love of local history.

Verna Hello, congratulations for this albeit small piece of local history in context, but history is forever!.

I am pleased that you've recovered documents of 150 years ago, that you have provided the answers and questions such as those I raise below.
Firstly the issue of place names, it is true that states, that the words appear in official documents Baraggione but while there where unofficial transcripts are getting well Baraggioni.
you send email to some of these examples:

In the State of Souls, 1854, prepared by the provost, Don Felice Plain di Borgomanero che facendo la conta delle persone abitanti nel quartiere Caristo di Borgomanero, elencava le corti, le famiglie ed i toponimi delle zone visistate. Ecco comparire S.Stefano,Motto Florio, Capsine Mandriano, Capsina Ordiera, Baraggioni, Colombaro.

In un censimento sabaudo del 1838 viene scritto Baraggioni

Nella mappa Rabbini del 1858 invece viene scritto C.le Baraggione.

We propose to revive your research on the place names near you: Motto Florio, Comiona, Colombaro.

For example, I always thought Motto Florio, is attached to write and identify a flower theme, as it was and it really is. Instead it seems that it was a property of the Florio family. (Florio who? Florio Tornielli? Around There you have any more news?).

The name of Colombaro seems very old, as well as that of Comiona that in 1150, however, was called Cumignona.

fact on that name very dear to me, as are the owners of what was once the "San Gesa to Peru, I found an entry in the" Liber Extimi clergy, "at ASDN Novara drafted in 1357, writes that the oratory of de Sancti Petri Cumignona was belonging to the Church of Cureggio.

The little history that departs from a simple name actually has its roots in an unknown past and away, lost and not passed down to today.

Our passion "historical" (or maybe it's just curiosity) can bring out these little things, which I think are very interesting.

For example Zanetti family of surnames over time become Zanetta. This is a witness to his friend Peter who showed me a document from Zanetti where his grandfather was "renamed" in Zanetta.

Therefore I hope to read your blog about our other research sites and our land.
Greetings.
Gregory of St. Stephen.

Hello, Greg
thank you for the compliments and for having grasped the meaning of my post.
The story, the one with a capital S, is written with the documents, testimonies, and sometimes not fully reflect the reality that smaller, more personal and more connected to everyday life offers. It's up to us, that we are traveling, documents and memorabilia, our little local history, to have it rise with dignity in the sight of the bigger one. To this , would you reveal that I am currently devouring the works of Nino Chiovini that Bring recorder and with infinite patience, picked up the 80 stories of elderly people in the territory of Valgrande, to illustrate the characteristics and habits of life of the mountaineers and mountain dwellers then. Great work of reconstruction of daily life full of work and effort of the poor and humble people of our area. (At that time she came to me the idea to talk with the old and still participate in the life of the ACLI Vergano to collect stories and record them before it was later ... unfortunately never implemented, and now it has become later ...)
I will use the Secure your comment you sent me (I think it could not enter directly into the blog ...,) to take up the subject of the name of Baraggioni as what I wrote was only a first encounter with a piece of "history" of my house of birth. In fact to read between the lines is well understood that at some point, my initial thought was also Influenced by my personal memories linked to that small stretch of territory, so as to postpone to a later attempt to post the resolution of its origin.
If you do not mind it, I would use the attachments you sent me. I confess that initially I would have wanted to "exploit" taken from the site of "Varganbass" citing the source, of course. Then, my article took a slightly different direction and then I decided to get in the future.
With regard to other research, do not guarantee anything, but I can tell you that I dived for three afternoons in the local archives and historical Borgomanero I focused only on the files ... The work of "bookworm" is huge ... and also exhausting ... (interpreting old handwriting is already an adventure in itself). It could happen to run into some important news. But it takes a mess of time ...
Thanks again for that pay attention to my blog (although they are slow nel redigere gli articoli, qualcosa combino...) e ti saluto cordialmente. A presto.
Vernè... (Renato)

  Ciao Verné,
effettivamente quanto scritto nell'email l'ho postato nel commento ma forse era troppo pesante
Un altra curiosità relativa al nome del tuo Blog, è che ho visto una carta geografica della fine del 700 o primi dell'800 dove il Sizzone era denominato come "CICCIONE".Quindi il Sciscioch o Sciscion ha una chiara origine da questo.....ed è strano come noi di Vergano Sotto we have a dialect sound harder than Vergano above research should be done here too!
If you plan to carry on some historical subject that may be of common interest, let me know.
An example might be the origin of surnames, because the rods may be of Zanetti's Zanetta of Santo Stefano, or marriages between above and below were a constant, or as some surnames may be gone now On Vergano present only in S. Stefano.
Greetings
; ; Greg.

Small note referring to the common dialect of the trunk and hard sound of certain words. I recognize that my blog should actually be called "Al Sciscioch" as well pronounce even Vergano. In my choice for the name of the blog, I chose the most gentle, as if to highlight and emphasize the melancholic and nostalgic that I wanted to give him. I did not think, though, that I subsequently diverted to research some articles of local historical truth, so my license record could be conceivable. Now, however, since we are discussing addiruttura for the original or a voice and what Baraggioni of the name, I reiterate that the true condition of Verganese Sizzone Sciscioch is, as it is also called Santo Stefano.
And then I do a little mea culpa, because I realize that the language used at will could lead to wrong interpretations and errors that protrarrebbero over time, given the enormous influence of using the Web for future generations. And then also understand the variations and deviations in the past may have been the place names, people use the popular tradition that in some way could then be reflected or not, and later in publications and official documents that they handed down to posterity.
In this regard I would, if kindly let me pin, to make a clarification regarding a calligraphic interpretation of the document by the census of 1838 he reported in full in Varganbass site. This is to contribute to the debate and to promote the historical truth in order not to misrepresent.
Where, in the official document, start new groups in familiar neighborhoods or areas recognized by their name, red needle inserted in his "translation" to promote the event leggibilità.Nel entered above, intrigued by the interpretation Capsina unknown to me, I wanted to, enlarging the image, I obtain a translation. And I convinced (although the readability of some old calligraphy should goggle ...) that there is written Ordiera House. To comfort my statement that I tried to enlarge a name as unequivocal Joseph Zanetta and learned that the clerk of the document used to represent the letter s convoluted that way if it were capitalized, while the p had properly only in the lower stem without flourishes top.

To make the reading of this post, I'll stop here, although certainly the search for other historical sources will allow me to return to develop this subject in the future. Let me just say that this research is exciting and rewarding because it makes you realize how much care and attention that you have you considered just as an interpretation of a word opens up unexpected and mysterious scenarios in which you want to dive relive them together to the protagonists of the past. I think that's the spirit that animates even Greg "needle" and I'm happy to share this passion with him. To end
in music, a relevant passage from joyful that could become the "symbol" of my blog and for which I spend some further thought.
Nell'addolcire Sizzone of the dialect word for my blog, I did f bears also influence from our neighbors Maggioresi (Majuri), bordering Baraggionesi, using many of the words ending in "a". So for them it is Sciscioch Ciciun. And more good-natured rotondeggante name that comes close to what is reported by Greg enormously that saw him on an ancient map of the early nineteenth century (sappimi unearthed ... where did you say I'm terribly curious ...): "Fat !
I enter in this regard, a video of my invention with the use of a ballad of our fellow country singer Dario Baldan Bembo (Maggiorese) taken from the album "Spirit of the Earth" engraved in the first administrative eighties, with a mobile studio in a farmhouse in the valley of Ciciun maggiorese. I also thank Franco Marucco who was made to burn the song directly from Dario Baldan Bembo, his friend, as it is difficult to track down an mp3 file in the run.
Southwest by Balmun (poetic license .. as it should be: In the north west of Balmun ...).
