There was a time when even Vergano colony had its solar ...
Other times of course.
Quella di Vergano non appartiene direttamente al mio vissuto, ma fa parte della generazione nata intorno to the Thirties that, by the time it was opened, had six to ten years.
the year 1937 when I ran a large group of armed himself Verganesi (bad word for that period could also be interpreted literally ... we were approaching the second world war!) Goodwill (armed with good will here the right fit for the word ......) arm and undertook the work of excavation and cleaning of a small plot of land near the bank of the Sciscion, just behind the hills west coast that led to the vineyards. I think it was owned by Benjamin duel he put at the disposal for the purpose it was intended.
Sono trascorsi ormai ben più di settant'anni da allora e le persone mature che sono immortalate in the photographs is now quite a while that are no longer with us. Who, of my two readers Verganesi (I hope that young people can navigate to the screen to call their parents ...) will have the goodness of Law, will recognize the surprise features of familiar faces and even say "Toh! ... C 'is also my grandfather. " For my part, besides my father, of course, I have identified several people who I knew as a kid and even my older brother, seventy-eight years now, which by then had five or six.
Once the excavation work and leveling, with consequent rearrangement of the land and sowing of the next "bula" I'll just make the grass to grow, we organized a big party with the participation also of the band of Vergano, whose components can be identified in this photo of the group, to give an idea of \u200b\u200bthe time it runs, has taken in children the octogenarians of today ...
Then there was the official opening, with the intervention of the parish priest Don Savoini for the blessing of the authorities, teachers of elementary schools with its banner, and boys dressed as strictly "table" as "leader" ... commander, who performed gymnastics in an essay. Everything was embellished by the warmth and the presence of a slice of the population.
In subsequent years were also set up the party at the opening of the colony. The pictures refer to the year 1941. The day ended with lunch in the local asylum offered, in the presence of the authorities, to all the boys, whereas previously, in the courtyard, there was the spectacle staged by teachers and performed by young actors on stage in front of family and villagers admired.
particularly dear to me is this last picture above. On the far right in second row seat is my mother, in her arms my brother Arnaldo. I'd arrived seven years after ... The solar colony, which was activated during the summer school holidays in elementary, I believe that continued until 1941, already in times of war, unfortunately. Then the dark times that followed dramatic and did not allow the survival of this most worthy institution which allowed the students to continue to socialize with friends at school but without the task of tasks and the study ... adults and parents to be confident about the care of children. The day was organized games in the courtyard of asylum, with the lunch that was consumed on the premises of the same and with the descent of the colony, in the afternoon, to brown in the sun or "dip" in the waters of Sciscion. Always under the strict supervision of teachers and after a rigorous and proper flag-raising ceremony. Can I also put some pictures of 1941, the last year of activity despite the very dark and difficult times that you were experiencing. The strength and courage of our people at the same time humble and fair in their peasant condition, caused at least a couple of years were hidden from the horror of the times that children were experiencing.
The high number of children (you could count at least thirty to forty boys and girls), I suggest that not all were of Vergano, although at the time the birth rate was really high. This consideration came to me seeing that even in a book published by Pro-site by the municipality and the MS Society Worker Maggiora, titled Memoirs Maggioresi '40-'45 is the photo dell'alzabandiera. This makes me think that some Maggiorese took part in the colony. So it could have happened to some other guy from neighboring municipalities.
I would be happy if involved at the time (born around the thirties) to read my post and take action, in the comments or contact me to document memories or other stories about that period. Since I am not quite sure of the dates and the length of time that the colony was, gladly accommodate changing such details, if appropriate, the content of the post.
conclude by attaching some recent photos, taken on the occasion of this story, documenting the state of degradation in which pay, unfortunately, the place that has seen at different times, and even quite recently, moments of glory and splendor the participation of all the land of Vergano.
This for me is the image of lost innocence.
If some symbols and memories of a unique season for any human being, that is childhood, are worthy of being abandoned and scattered in a thicket near a stream, really means that the age of innocence if they have fled on. Be a warning to kids who might see this image. Do not let your dreams die and your fantasy mezzo ad una discarica abusiva nella natura.
Dove andranno i bambini a giocare?, canta Cat Stevens. Ci sia di monito
